Wireless Controls - Can I control a Zigbee lamp or Zigbee® dimmer with the Niko Zigbee® battery powered switches without a hub?
Yes. When a Zigbee® bulb or dimmer supports Touchlink it is possible to have it controlled by the Niko battery powered Zigbee® switches (552-720XX), without a gateway, hub or wireless bridge.
Touchlink is a function within the Zigbee® 3.0 protocol that allows to pair a wall switch or a remote control (master) with one or more Zigbee® devices (secondaries).
During the Touchlink pairing process the switch must be in the vicinity of the smart lamp (maximum 10 cm separation).
Every Niko battery powered Zigbee® switch supports Touchlink and can pair up to eight smart Zigbee® devices. They also support Find&Bind pairing and EZ-mode pairing.
Niko battery powered Zigbee® switches support On, Off, Dim Up and Dim Down events. Smart colour lamps will be controlled ON/OFF/DIM in the colour it was previously active in. Changing colours or colour temperature is not yet possible.
The maximum working distance between a wireless battery powered switch and a smart lamp or Zigbee® dimmer is 10 meter and depends on the used materials inside the room or building, the position of the switch and potential sources of interference.
