Technology meets luxury at Van der Valk Hotel Beveren

At Van der Valk Hotel Beveren, hospitality and comfort are paramount. With 200 rooms, suites, and extensive facilities such as a wellness centre and conference complex, the hotel is a popular destination for both relaxation and business events. Innovation plays a key role, as demonstrated by the choice of Niko Home Control. “We always strive to offer our guests a complete experience, from the rooms to our event spaces,” says Tim van der Valk, managing director of the hotel.

Smart home automation for ultimate comfort

During recent renovations, Hotel Beveren opted for the advanced home automation solution Niko Home Control. Smart technology was integrated into 130 rooms and various suites, aiming to enhance both guest comfort and staff efficiency.

Technology that makes luxury accessible

"The lighting adjusts automatically, instantly creating the right atmosphere. The system, whether for the rooms or the conference complex, had to be intuitive and dummy-proof. In a hotel, guests shouldn't have to figure out how things work; everything needs to be instantly clear."

Tim explains

Energy efficiency and sustainability hand in hand

Energy efficiency was a key consideration in the design and installation of the automation system. Smart sensors in corridors, toilets, and other public areas significantly reduce energy consumption. “Thanks to these sensors, the corridor lights are only active 20% of the time,” says Tim. “In many hotels, lights stay on 24/7, but with us, they switch off automatically. That makes a huge difference.”

How automation saves energy in Hotel Beveren

  • Automatic sleep mode – When guests leave the room, lighting and climate control automatically switch to an energy-saving mode.
  • Smart housekeeping scheduling – A dedicated panel in the linen rooms displays real-time occupancy status, preventing unnecessary room disturbances.
  • Sensor lighting – Lights in corridors and toilets only activate when needed, saving energy and promoting hygiene.
"Thanks to smart sensors, we save a tremendous amount of energy. We hold a Green Key certificate, and these solutions perfectly align with our vision of sustainability. It’s about both cost savings and contributing to a better environment."

Niko Home Control: The ideal choice for the Hotel Industry

Tim highly recommends the Niko Home Control system for other hotels. “Everything is easy to operate and intuitive, both for guests and our staff,” he says. “It’s a must for hotels looking to combine comfort, energy efficiency, and a unique guest experience.”
