It might look like a typical 70s house in Sint-Genesius-Rode from the outside, but inside, it’s a sophisticated modern sanctuary where no detail has been left to chance. That's no surprise, as it belongs to Alexandra Hombergen, owner and editor of luxury lifestyle magazine Villas. Among those carefully chosen details: our Niko Toggle switches.
Alexandra transformed the 1974 house into a contemporary, yet cosy home with the help of interior decorator Peggy Bauwens. To create a sense of harmony, they consistently used the same organic materials - darkened Wenge wood, raffia wall coverings and beige Mortex finishes - throughout the house. No detail was overlooked—even the switches needed to correspond with the home’s overall aesthetic. And that’s where our Niko Toggle switches came in. Their iconic look and timeless materials turned out to be a match made in design heaven.
Upstairs, the mood shifts to something more serene and peaceful with soft, warm white tones and lighter shades of wood.
"My bedroom, for example, is all about soft whites and ivory tones - the white curtains and a carpet only enhance the relaxing atmosphere in there. For the bathroom, we opted for a finish in beige Mortex."
The design is in the details
As the owner and editor of the Belgian luxury lifestyle magazine Villas, Alexandra knows the importance of details. Every material, texture, and colour in her home was chosen with the utmost care, down to the switches, where she chose Niko for their smart blend of design and functionality.
“If you want to turn your house into something truly beautiful, details - like Niko switches for instance - make all the difference. It’s what sets a basic house apart from a beautiful one," Alexandra adds.

“On the ground floor, the Niko Toggle alu black brushed switches perfectly match the black window frames and darkened wood used throughout the living room and kitchen,” Alexandra explains.
The Niko Toggle switches may draw inspiration from iconic Niko designs of the past, but their functionality is entirely up to to date. A feature Alexandra especially values is the dimming option.
"I’m not big on bright lights, so I have dimmers all over the house. The tactile toggle bar of the Niko Toggle switch is so convenient - it allows me to adjust the light very intuitively. It just elevates the entire dimming experience,” Alexandra concludes with a smile.

This isn’t Alexandra’s first encounter with Niko. On the contrary, she has known Niko for over 20 years, as she first used their switches in her very first home renovation at the age of 23.
