Difference between 2-wire and 3-wire cabling

What is the difference between 2-wire and 3-wire cabling?

  • 3-wire: for new builds and installations since 1991. Check to be sure that the neutral conductor is available where the dimmer is to be fitted
  • 2-wire: for installations from before 1991. This is not connected tothe neutral conductor, so ideal for renovations
